NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Airlines set record low rates for lost baggage and bumped passengers last year.
Statistics show the Transportation Department received over 3 reports of mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers. That's the lowest level since 1988 when they started keeping track.
Also, U.S. Airlines report the lowest rate of passengers bumped from overbooked flights since 1995.
Airlines credit better technology and training for the improvements.
However, there is some bad news. complaints about service was up 5.1 percent last year compared to 2010.
